All MaXXlink types provide the capability to import BOMs and Items from Excel.
BOM uploads must not contain items that don't already exist on MaXXlink. This is because items must first meet the constraints of their item templates before they can be added to a BOM and subsequently meet the BOM templates requirements as well. Because of this, the best approach is to uploading a batch of items from Excel on the items page and then uploading a BOM from Excel with these newly created items.
Item upload using Excel:
At the top of the Items page is the 'Excel Upload' button. Upon pressing this button, you will see the toolbar that will provide you with a spreadsheet you can use upon selecting one of your templates. To use the spreadsheet, select the item template of your choice, then download it.
The Excel sheet will allow for all properties in the Item template to be added, and the fields will need to abide by the constraints like they would on the web application. If any fields are invalid (i.e. excessive character length or empty for a required value) this will throw an error. The sheet also allows for thumbnails. Be aware that subassemblies can't be added in item imports.
BOM upload using Excel:
The BOMs page will also have the 'Excel Upload' button at the top. The toolbar can be used to download the Excel File that can be used as a scaffold which will have 2 sheets as opposed to 1 like the Item Template's xlsx has. The first sheet is 'BOM Header' while the other is 'BOM Line'. Both of these will mirror the BOM Header and Line contained in the template of your choosing. To identify the BOM Template make sure that its ID matches that of the ID displayed on the sheet, this ID can be found on the BOM templates page in the leftmost column.
To do hierarchies in xlsx, this is conducted using sequence numbers and parent sequence numbers. This is a parent-child hierarchy system that maps the structure of a Bill of Materials (BOM). Each item has a unique Sequence Number, and the Parent Sequence Number field points to its 'owner' or container.
If any of the fields are invalid similarly to the Item template upload, the BOM won't be able to upload.
