How do I add a Custom Property to the BOM line?
Use the 'Sync Custom Fields' feature to push the custom property to MaXXlink.
Add the custom field to 'Selected External Properties' from External Properties. Keep in mind that custom properties will only show up from their respective source platforms under 'External Source'.
Go to the edit page for the default template being used and change the template type to an 'External Source Template' if it isn't already so. Proceed to add a custom field under the 'Custom' tab of your BOM Line, where the property should be selectable under 'External Property'.
When custom properties are adjusted or added to an assembly that has already been uploaded, make sure to duplicate or merge the adjusted BOM after syncing the custom properties so that the values carry over.
Can MaXXlink push BOM changes back to Solidworks/Inventor?
Solidworks and Inventor are intended to be the sources of truth, meaning that there is no ability for MaXXlink to alter the BOM as it has been designed in CAD.
Can MaXXlink push changes back to ERP systems?
Yes, MaXXlink is able to do this. This feature is under the 'Export To' button visible above the BOM once your ERP is connected. If the BOM already exists, differences will be shown in a detailed comparison screen, where you will be able to see items that have been modified, deleted, or added and whether this was on the ERP side, MaXXlink side, or both.
What happens to the child items of a sub-assembly when it is deleted?
This is an option left to the user whereby the child items can either be deleted or added to the root/top assembly. This needs to be defined when a fresh MaXXlink repository is started. Go to settings to the 'Import BOM Configurations' tab which will allow you to select 'Add to Root' or 'Deleted'.
Can non-cad items such as labour, painting, laser cutting, and powder coating be added to a BOM hierarchy?
Yes, custom items can be created that can suit the application. This can be used from a different item template to the other items in the same BOM if necessary and a suitable thumbnail image and custom field such as cost or time can be added for each of these too. Non-CAD subassemblies can be made too.
To export to an ERP system, all items in the BOM will need to be in the same template that also has the ERP system set as its external source. To change item's templates, use the 'item' tab on the template mapping page.
